Best Beaches in North Wales

28 June 2018

With the warm weather that has arrived this week, there’s no better time like now to talk about the stunning beaches we have on offer in North Wales. The North Wales coastline is full of magnificent beaches from Abersoch to Llandudno, you really are spoilt for choice.

Let’s start down the west coast of North Wales at Barmouth. Barmouth beach is idyllically set on a backdrop of craggy mountains, within the Snowdonia National Park. The beach features a large sandy area, a firm favourite with holiday makers and locals alike. However due the size of the beach never seems crowded even during those busier summer months. Barmouth as all the charm of a seaside town with donkey rides, swing boats and amusement arcades lining the shores, meaning there’s something to do for the whole family!

North of Barmouth, you’ll find the Llyn Peninsula. An area often thought of having its very own micro climate during the summer months! From Criccieth to Abersoch and Aberdaron, there’s plenty of beaches in this area of North Wales to keep you busy throughout the whole summer holidays! The main beach in Abersoch is a long sandy stretch with views out towards Harlech. This sandy beach has a curving bay meaning that however busy you may think it's going to be, you’ll always find a good spot to spend the afternoon. On this beach you’ll also find some brightly coloured beach huts which line the shores, the perfect place for a charming photo opportunity. Whilst in the Llyn Peninsula make sure to make a stop at Porthdinllaen, a stretch of sandy beach rich with history and spectacular views. What makes this beach extra special is that it can only be accessed by foot! Once you’ve made your way to the beach don't worry about there being nothing around. Occupy yourself with some of the watersports on offer or why not visit Ty Coch Inn, the beaches very own pub! Officially in the top 10 beach bars in the world! If that doesn't make you want to visit, I don't know what will!

Over in Anglesey beaches can be found in abundance, with over 125 miles of coastline! Newborough beach is one worth a visit, where you have to access the beach via a walk through the forest! With sand dunes galore, Newborough beach is the perfect place for families and pets alike! Rhosneigr beach is also a stunning coastal area of Anglesey and the winner of a Green Coast seaside award, perfect for beach walks with its rocky outcrops and dramatic sand dunes. Benllech beach is probably one of the most popular beaches on the island, thanks to its fine golden sand and clear blue waters. This beach also has excellent disabled facilities, allowing easy access for disabled visitors and families with prams.

Heading east towards the north coast, there’s a few more beaches which deserve a mention. Take Conwy Morfa, a large sandy bay on the outskirts of the historic town of Conwy. You won’t find much on the beach other than glorious views and maybe if you’re lucky, an ice cream van to help cool you down. Across the water you care able to see the faint outline of one of Llandudno’s two beaches. Llandudno is home to West Shore and North Shore beaches, each on spectacular in its own right. Why not spend the day exploring either of these two beaches which back onto the stunning headland that is the great orme? An hours drive from Llandudno will take you another beach worth knowing about in North Wales and that is Talacre. Talacre beach can be found just past the town of Prestatyn and features miles of world famous golden sand dunes, an RSPB nature reserve and an iconic lighthouse, which brings this beach to life.
