Fall in Love with North Wales!

08 February 2018

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we thought we’d introduce you to some of the most romantic destinations in North Wales. Whether you already own a holiday home in the area, or are thinking about holiday home ownership, we want to help you fall in love with North Wales.

From coast to countryside, North Wales is home to some idyllic and naturally beautiful destinations, the perfect place for you to fall in love.

Our first stop is Llanddwyn Island, off the coast of Newborough in Anglesey. Not so much an island, but more a narrow finger of land, Llanddwyn translates from Welsh as ‘The Church of St. Dwynwen’. St. Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, the Welsh equivalent to Valentine's day, celebrated annually on January 25th. The ruins of Llanddwyn Chapel can be found on the island, alongside Twr Bach Beacon, built on the tip of the island to provide guidance to ships heading towards the Menai Straits. Llanddwyn Island is a beautiful spot to enjoy in great weather, strolling around the island before enjoying a well deserved picnic along the coastline. But that’s not to say it's not a sight to be enjoyed when winter arrives. The winter winds, create an exhilarating backdrop to explore the island with your loved ones.

Head down the west coast and you’ll find yourself at the picturesque, Italian style village of Portmeirion. There’s so much to do in this romantic, quaint village from taking in the riviera style architecture, painted in bright colours to strolling around the central piazza taking in this iconic village for yourself. Why not end your trip in on of the villages top restaurants? Relax over a candlelit meal with a well deserved glass of wine and some fine dining, what more could you want? Maybe a stunning view? They are in abundance at Portmeirion, whether from the quayside or the view of the coloured houses of Portmeirion from Llechollwyn as you’re leaving.

Nearby Portmeirion, you’ll find the Llyn Peninsula, home to some of North Wales top beaches. From stunning sandy beaches to its very own microclimate, the Llyn Peninsula should be your top choice if you’re looking for a charming seaside walk. Top choices would be Abersoch beach, with its dainty and pretty beach huts which line the seafront and Porthdinllaen in Morfa Nefyn, home to a stunning timeless beach as well as Ty Coch Inn, a pub you can only get to by foot.

North Wales may be known for its stunning beaches, but we also have stunning lakes! Be sure to stop off at Llyn Padarn. Nestled amongst some of Snowdonia’s most magnificent scenery. This glacially formed lake resides alongside the quaint welsh town of Llanberis and is surrounded by the enchanting and mystical Padarn Country Park. Why not use this stunning backdrop as your opportunity for a romantic walk with your loved ones, revelling in the natural beauty of your surroundings. Or come night time, why not stargaze from a paddleboard on the lake. Llyn Padarn is one of only 11 dark sky reserves on the planet, so this experience is truly unique! Get out on the lake, lie down on your board and look at the stars in awe, what could be more romantic?

As well as lakes, North Wales is home to charming, mystical waterfalls. A point of interest for a romantic day out would be Aber Falls in Abergwyngregyn. A short walk through spectacular natural landscape takes you to a viewing point, where you can see the falls in all their true glory. This stop off makes for the perfect place to take in your surroundings and have a picnic, before making your way back down to your starting point. The walk should take roughly 2 hours at a leisurely pace, allowing you to be at one with nature and truly be in the moment.

Fancy trying something different whilst in North Wales? How about a visit to a welsh vineyard? Gwinllan Conwy is situated in the small village of Llangwstenin, just off the A55 near Conwy. Opening back in 2012, the vineyard produces five different wine varieties and offers guided tours and wine tasting, from as little as £15! What could be more romantic than enjoying a bottle of locally made wine with your partner in a beautiful setting looking out over the Snowdonia National Park.

North Wales is also home to some stunning botanical gardens, such as Bodnant Gardens in Conwy Valley. The 80 acres of garden are covered in blooming flowers and plants, with terraced gardens and informal lawns, surrounded by stunning views towards Snowdonia. Take the day to surround yourself by a world class garden with botanical collections from around the globe.

This is just a snippet into the romantic destinations of North Wales, set to make you fall in love with the area. If you’ve not visited yet, make sure you do! All it takes is one visit to make your hearts race and want to return time and time again! Creating the perfect reason to buy a static caravan holiday home, making this stunning destination your latest home away from home!
