16 March 2018

North Wales is full of wonderful locations which make you feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of your daily lives. Whether you’re after a beautiful coastline to relax the day away by the seaside or scenic landscapes amidst rolling hills to spend days exploring the countryside.

Anglesey is one of these areas of North Wales, which can offer you with glorious beaches, towns full of history and Welsh culture and beautiful countryside all within miles of each other.

Anglesey is a small island off the North Wales coast, connected via two bridges between Bangor and Menai Bridge. The Isle of Anglesey, also known as Ynys Mon is a place full of inspiration, with things to do, people to meet, local food to taste and sights to see, you’ll always something here to keep you occupied.

Being an island, Anglesey is home to miles and miles of coastline, so why not head out for the day and see where you end up on the coastal path? Covering 20 towns/villages, you’re always close to a starting point. Experience the scenic views from some of Wales’ most stunning beaches, before stopping off for some lunch at a local cafe, taking in some of the island’s local produce. Beaches are a plenty in Anglesey! From Newborough Beach, a stunning coastline surrounded in woodland to Rhosneigr, a beach perfect for those summer days playing in the sand and taking part in some water sports, from surfing to windsurfing!

Anglesey is an area of Wales that is full of fun for the whole family. Whether you’re into adventure, history or maybe just after a day of fun filled activities, there really is something for everyone.

Anglesey is an island bursting with heritage and culture. Take Beaumaris Castle, built back in the 13th century and the last of Edward I’s iron ring of castles. Spend the day exploring the technically perfect castle built with an ingenious walls within walls layout, the perfect place to hide away from trouble. There’s also Aberlleiniog Castle, a hidden gem on the island. This little known castle, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument situated in the heart of a peaceful woodland nature reserve, near Penmon on the island. Aberlleiniog Castle’s unique history set it apart from the other historical monuments on the island, with captivating stories about Welsh Princes, Viking Raiders and even Pirates!

For something a little different, why not visit Amlwch and spend the day at The Copper Kingdom. Once the largest copper mine in the world, The Copper Kingdom is now open to the public to explore Parys Mountain and envision yourself working within these underground mines.

If you want to witness the true beauty of the island, South Stack is a brilliant place to start. One of the islands must see landscapes, the spectacular 100m high sea cliffs can be viewed from the path leading down to the lighthouse. With folded and faulted rock formations, South Stack is a truly spectacular landscape, with views across the Llyn Peninsula and even as far as Ireland's Wicklow Mountains on a clear day.

There really is fun for the whole family on the island, from an adrenaline filled Adventure Boat Rib Ride along the Menai Straits to The Anglesey Sea Zoo, a unique aquarium with over 40 tanks displaying the best of British marine wildlife, everything from octopuses, seahorses and even cat sharks! Pili Palas is also great for a family day out, whatever the weather! Get close to nature and study a wide variety of creepy crawlies and butterflies!
